In an effort to revitalize the streetscape and attract more pedestrians to the sidewalks, the city of Santa Monica is interested in developing parklets on Main Street.
Considerations
What opportunities does such this space offer, both in terms of design and urbanism?
How does the context of the site influence the parklet design?
What new perceptions and new uses do I suggest for the site?
What is the new relationship of the developed site to the surrounding context?
Solution
Through my analysis, I conducted site visits and observed user activity. My goal was to design a parklet that increased social interaction, enhance the streetscape, and boost pedestrian and economic activity.
